These plants play a vital role in capturing windblown sand and forming natural dunes, which act as barriers against coastal erosion.

How Dunes Protect the Coast

As the plants mature, they continue to trap sand beneath their branches, slowly forming small dune hills. These dunes not only help protect the beach from the impacts of rising sea levels and storms but also provide a natural habitat for local wildlife, including insects and shorebirds. The restored area is now a refuge for species that had been displaced by years of human activity and beach grooming.
